Bill Cunningham New York (Documentary)

Friday night I had a date with ‘fashion’ at the Labia theatre. I was so fascinated by the heart, the passion and the character of this man.  Bill Cunningham is a magnificent fashion photographer capturing street fashion in New York. The 83 year old (I think) cycles around the city and take shots of people in the streets. He’s the most adorable old man ever with an eye for fashion. The amount of work that this man has done is beyond comprehension. He has files upon files of every single picture he has ever taken nicely sorted out in his cabin.
What stole my heart besides the fashion was the character of the man. He does not in any way think that he’s ‘important’….he simply lives for fashion. What a humble man. Absolutely amazing documentary not just the fashion and photography, but it will give you space to step back and look at the world through different lenses. Must watch!
Some of Bill Cunningham quotes:
“You see, if you don’t take money, they can’t tell you what to do, kid…Money’s the cheapest thing. Liberty, freedom is the most expensive.”
”Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life. I don’t think you could do away with it. It would be like doing away with civilization.”
“I love to photograph ordinary people dressed in fascinating ways”
